What is a Dry Riser?
Dry Risers are an essential part of fire protection equipment designed for any multi-level buildings. Dry risers are crucial in delivering large amounts of water through a system of pipework and valves in high rise buildings. However they can often fall victim to neglect or vandalism so it’s imperative to have them regularly serviced and maintained.
Why are Dry Risers required?
Dry Risers are essential for any high rise buildings and enable the Fire & Rescue Service to access water on the upper floors of a building. Due to the importance of dry risers there are strict regulations in place, which is all in the name of saving lives!
So, how do Dry Risers work?
The Fire & Rescue Service will fill the Dry Riser pipe from the fire engine with pressurised water to the inlet on the ground floor of the building. This then enables the fire fighters to connect hose pipes to the outlet valves on each floor.
Doing this enables the Fire Service to access water much quicker and eliminating the need to use longer heavier hoses which would be run through the whole building. Thus saving time and lives!
